The Braided Wire

The American west of 1880 is a place where feelings of self righteousness create hardened men. In such a place, a man like Jonas Ryman is free to enforce his will on others. The new Wyoming Territorial Judge, Horace McCabe, has other ideas about the future of things and employs the service of Jacob Chandler as U.S. Marshal to carry out his edicts.

Ryman is up against the changing times, an influx of settlers and his long time neighbor, Ellis Banks, who has glimpsed the future and embraced it. The days of the roundup are numbered and a braided wire is about to cover the canvas of the west. Banks has his hands full with a new grain mill, Ryman's hired guns and a murdered nephew, Jeffrey Cord, who he'd brought west to run the mill. When Banks discovers that Cord's young widow, Sarah, is up to the task of managing his mill, he finds himself back in business and back in the game.

Sarah Cord has other thoughts to occupy her time, revenge. Revenge for the death of a husband and revenge for the indecencies she suffered at the hands of Ryman's gunmen. She also becomes torn by a growing love for the handsome Marshal Chandler. The range erupts when feared Texas gunman, Elliot Duncan, arrives at the bequest of Banks causing Ryman to step up his deadly game. Treachery abounds on all sides and betrayal is afoot at every turn.

Judge McCabe and the marshal will stop at nothing to see that law and order reign so the new territory can take its place in the Union. But when the beautiful Sarah Cord captures Chandler's heart and instills a vision of a greater future for him than that of an unmarked grave, he too must make a choice. Unfortunately, though the seed of love has been planted, Chandler knows the gun smoke choking the plains must clear before he can reap any bounty or have a new life with Sarah.

To Serve and Protect

Nome, Alaska is a windswept isolated city on the shores of the Bering Sea, where an alliance in crime and drugs has formed. Rumors abound implicating high ranking city officials. Many within the administration have turned a blind eye to these unsavory elements. Drugs, and now death, hold the town in its grasp. When State Trooper Sergeant Aaron Stone is reassigned from Fairbanks to solve a rape homicide of Judith Harrison and her two young daughters, every attempt is made to derail his investigation.

Mysterious unexplained murders, without apparent motive, continue after he arrives and starts to interfere in local police matters. Complicating his case and investigation is the beautiful, yet nosy, Anchorage News reporter, Jennifer Turner. She tries to engage in her own brand of crime reporting until she too is pulled into the sinister web of cocaine and homicide.

Unbelievably, this case has Sergeant Stone fighting his own private nightmare from Vietnam where he had witnessed similar killings and the rape of an innocent child. Perhaps the reciprocity of this assignment, and exacting some justice for an unpunished crime, can defeat an evil which haunts his dreams still; proving Nome to be the place which can free Sergeant Stone from a war that left him scarred and filled with regret. With the successful resolution of this long overdue debt of remorse, he may also discover the capacity within himself to again care for others and step out from behind a shadow which has darkened his life.
